The NHGRI-1 fish were produced from an unique strain known as “TAB-5,” which was created by a hybrid cross of two of the most widely utilised zebrafish lines: Tuebingen and AB. This cross’s F1 fish were inbred and tested for mutations influencing the first 5 days of development. Since its separation in 1997, the strain has been kept in Shawn Burgess’ laboratory without any further genetic diversity being introduced. Several mating couples were picked from the TAB-5 pool, and the most vigorous mating pair was chosen as the NHGRI-1 founder pair. The NHGRI-1 line’s genome has been sequenced, and over 10 million single nucleotide variations have been discovered.
